An education in Haiti is a luxury most cannot afford. There are no public or free schools. The expense of uniforms, books and tuition are beyond the grasp of the average Haitian family. Without education, the generation-to-generation poverty and hopelessness continues. |

Child Hope International secures an education for each child at Maison de Lumiere, providing uniforms, books, school supplies and on-staff tutors. After the earthquake in January 2010, we expanded our school, that previously was only for Pre-K through 3rd grade, to accomodate all of our children. (The older children previously attended private Haitian school). The children are taught a wide range of subjects including English, Math, French, Science, Bible, Computers, Business and Vocational training and is geared to help them prepare successfully for independent living.
The goal of the program is to teach life skills and that each child graduate with fluency in English and French, have strong math skills, know a trade and be knowledgable on how to operate a small business. With 80% unemployment in Haiti, we seek to "over-prepare" the children for a successful future. |
